The Election Commission on Saturday allowed the Rajasthan University (RU) to continue its recruitment process as scheduled. This decision came late in the evening after day-long deliberations between the commission office and the university officials.

Since the code of conduct has come into effect from Saturday, the commission had decided to stay all ongoing recruitments. And to solve this matter, the RU administration approached the commission office in Jaipur on Saturday itself.

The university officials then told the commission that if the recruitment process is not completed before February 2014, the hiring will not meet its deadline and will lapse. “The interviews will be held from Monday. The university decided the interview dates, informed the dates to the candidates and eminent educationists as panelist have been finalized,” said the RU officers.

The commission office told TOI that the matter holds merit and has been escalated to the higher authorities. After consultation, the commission has given a go ahead to the university. “The commission’s only condition is that the university will give the joining date once the new government is formed,” said a source.

“The university will strictly follow the advice of the commission office,” said vice chairman, RU, Dev Swarup.

Sources said the commission had put a stay as two members – Satish Rai and P C Vyas – of the election committee are nominees of the state government. Rai is a senior official in the Rajiv Gandhi Brigade of UP and Vyas is a known aide of chief minister Ashok Gehlot. The recruitment is now in its last stage as interviews for 294 assistant professors, 61 for associate professors and 35 for professors have been already scheduled.
