Now, the desert state will get National Institute of Design (NID) as Government of India has decided to set up a centre here in Rajasthan, according to Commerce and Industry Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.
Design is a very big component in industrial development. I would like to make this announcement that the Government agrees to have a NID centre started in Rajasthan, she said on Friday at the concluding session here at the Resurgent Rajasthan Partnership Summit 2015.
Besides, the Government has also agreed to establish four new design institutes at Kurukshetra, Bhopal, Jorhat and Vijayawada. These four new centres will operate as satellite centre of Bengaluru. Even in the first year, I would like to say that for some courses we can start having the classes for post-graduate even this year, if the Chief Minister so desires. We can have it for textile and apparel design, furniture and interior design or it can be packaging design and an IT integrated design, she said, adding that NID in Rajasthan is something, which I would like to offer at this stage.
First there a satellite centre will be opened up at Ahmadabad, and within a year a full-fledged NID centre with courses both for under-graduate and post-graduate will be set up there, she added.
The minister said Rajasthan is a dynamo for industrial development in the country. Appreciating Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje’s contribution for the state, the minister also said the state has taken several steps to improve business climate and it has been ranked 6th this year in the World Bank’s report. I hope that next year, Rajasthan would improve its ranking to reach the third position as it has adopted investor friendly policies, she said.
On Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) she said, The DMIC project will benefit the state immensely, she said, expecting the state exporters to avail the benefit of 3 per cent interest subsidy which was announced by the Government recently to boost exports.
On startups and micro, small, medium enterprises (MSMEs), Raje said, The concept of big is better’ has been obsolete now, rather small is better and beautiful. She was referring it while talking about development of small and medium scale industries.
I worked with MSMEs for last four years from Kashmir to Kanyakumari. I have interacted with the MSME entrepreneurs who have made their all-out efforts in this sector, especially in the state of Rajasthan, Raje said.
Further, the chief minister said that Rajasthan will soon observe a MSME Diwas’ in the state to promote the sector. We are hopeful that there would a MSME Diwas’ in the state very soon. We will invite our counterpart from the centre to promote this sector in some way or the other, she said.
However, MSME Minister Kalraj Mishra said, Rajasthan was considered as a backward state earlier, but now it is moving forward towards development, though the state is in between developing and developed.
Appreciating Raje for her effort in this mega summit, he said, The total investment of about Rs 3.3 lakh crore pledged by India Inc has been initiated by the Chief Minister of the state but it should be grounded to be successfully productive in implementation is your duty now. I think that the MSME is the best sector to make such Moss to a great success in the future.
