With the Centre getting strict about the rescue operations being conducted individually by the states, Rajasthan had to stop its chopper services for bringing back stranded people. The two helicopters hired by the state have now been attached to the Army. Meanwhile, relief camps will continue to operate.
“We wrapped up our services after the central government’s instructions to streamline the operations. It is to ensure that no one from particular state gets preferential treatment over others. However, our camps at three locations will continue to operate,” said a senior official of the Disaster Management and Relief Department, Rajasthan.
The officials said that this will not adversely affect the rescue operations to bring back people from Rajasthan. “Nothing will change, in fact, rescue operations will get better as they will now be coordinated and controlled by the Army,” added the official.
To give a boost to bringing back trapped people from Uttarakhand, Rajasthan government has instructed all the collectors to send a detailed list to Disaster Management & Relief Department. So far two districts have faxed a list of 500 people. The exact figures will be issued by the department by Wednesday afternoon.
Providing relief to relatives of those trapped in the hill sate, the department has started uploading all the details of the rescued and missing people on their website. “We are updating the details every 12 hours. The details can be found on www.rajrelief.nic.in. The state government has also positioned one officer at the Himalayan hospital where 23 Rajasthan is are being treated.
