The budget session of Rajasthan Assembly is beginning on Wednesday with opposition Congress all prepared to raise issues of educational criteria in Panchayati Raj polls, hike in power tariff, fuel prices, and withdrawal of subsidy on LPG cylinder, scarcity of urea and unemployment, among others.

The session would begin with Governor Kalyan Singh addressing the House at 11 am. The House is likely to be adjourned for the day after reading out condolence messages. Before the start of the assembly, the BJP and the Congress would hold meetings of their respective legislators in the morning to prepare their strategies for the session.

Leader of Opposition Rameshwar Dudi told to reports that “We will corner the government on issues of increase in VAT on petrol and diesel, withdraw of subsidy (of Rs 25) on domestic LPG cylinders which was given by our former Congress government, law and order situation and other issues,” on Wednesday.

He said that the party would highlight the “failure” of the government in providing good governance.

Parliamentary affairs minister Rajendra Rathore said that the state budget was likely to be presented in the second week of March, though the date was yet to be finalised. Sources, however, said chief minister Vasundhara Raje is likely to present the budget on March 9. A couple of new bills, including the Rajasthan apartment ownership bill, heritage conservation bill, SEZ bill and good governance bill, would also be introduced during the session.

“The state budget will be development oriented and the government will fulfill all promises made to the people,” Rathore Said.

Elaborate security arrangements, with additional policemen deployed around the assembly building, were put in place for the budget session, amidst declarations by several organisations to protest against the government for their rights.
