A threat to blow up the Circuit House during chief minister Vasundhara Raje's three-day visit to Barmer has sent the police department on its toes.

Confirming the report Barmer superintendent of police Anil Deshmukh said the police have received a copy of the letter sent to a local television channel, in which unknown miscreants have threatened to blow up the Circuit House during the chief minister's stay in Barmer. Deshmukh added the letter stated that Raje would be at the target of the blast.

He said following the information the police have sounded alert and beefed up security arrangements. We also have started investigation to trace the culprits, the SP added. Sources said the letter cover had a postal stamp and seal of October 19.

Barmer district collector Madhusudan Sharma also confirmed the report.

A few days back an audio clip went viral on social media in Barmer threatening blasts in Rajasthan. People of some villages reported the clip to the district administration. After that an alert has been sounded in the district and the SP has also ordered a probe into the matter.

According to the chief minister’s itinerary, Raje will reach Barmer on October 22 on a three-day visit. She will inaugurate a statue of Jat leader Gangaram Choudhary at Kisan Kanya Chhatrawas and address a public meeting on October 24.
