Jaipur‘s Kawa Brass Band joined in the celebrations held at Buckingham Palace to celebrate the birth of the royal baby. The band sang ‘Chanda Hai Tu Mera Sooraj Hai Tu‘ for Prince William and Kate’s son Prince George Alexander Louis at the welcome ceremony held at the royal palace on Wednesday morning. The band was invited by the palace to perform at the ceremony at 11 am.

After the Indian lullaby, the band played an English tune Welcome Home, the original song of the Beatles. Their 20-minutes performance concluded with the Bollywood song Papa Kehte Hain. Later in the afternoon, the band again performed to a select gathering of dignitaries at the Kensington Palace which happens to be the residence of William and Kate.

Dressed in colourful Rajasthani costumes, the band led by Hameed Khan Kawa presented a melange of eastern and western folk tunes on instruments like clarinet, saxophone, trumphet, trombone and tuba with an array of percussion. The artists include Najik Ali, Chand, Govinda, Roshan, Shafi, Raju, Sunitra, Viran and Supki. Hameed told us over the phone from the UK, “It was a great honour for our band to perform on such an occasion. Prince Charles had seen our performance in London in 2003 at Queen Elizabeth hall. He wanted our group to present a small performance as the country is celebrating the birth of the prince.”
