In a major reshuffling in Rajasthan, CM Raje shifted 40 IPS officers including two directors general (DGs). Many of the officer just get promotion last week.

Officers with proven track records have been assigned important posts directly dealing with law and order. Ajit Singh has been made additional DG (crime), while Janga Srinivas Rao has been appointed police commissioner of Jaipur. Rao, who was IG with the Rajasthan Human Rights Commission, would replace Bhupendra Kumar Dak, who moves out as additional DG, jails.

Singh has been rewarded for his outstanding performance in the anti-corruption bureau (ACB). As ACB head under the previous Congress government, he nailed even IPS officers accused of corruption. Singh replaces Kapil Garg, who has been shunted out to the state crime records bureau, a statistical job.

The ACB would now be headed by Manoj Bhatt, who was promoted as DG last week. This is probably the first time when the ACB is to be headed by a DG-rank officer. Umesh Mishra would be the new additional DG of ACB.

Former DGP Harish Meena has been transferred for the second time within a month. Meena would now be the DG of home guards. Raje shunted out Meena as DGP within minutes of her assuming the chief minister’s office on December 13. He was then placed as DG of state jails. Meena’s elder brother is a Congress MP in the Lok Sabha. The transfers effected on Monday are indicative of the ruling BJP’s compulsions of the impending Lok Sabha elections and the heightened public sentiment for a corruption free governance that reflected in Aam Aadmi Party’s victory in Delhi last month.

Rao, the new police commissioner of Jaipur, has had an exemplary record in field duties and is seen as a strict and upright officer. Inspector general D C Jain has been brought out from the ACB to head the Jaipur range. So far the range was being headed by Saurabh Srivastava, who has now been moved as IG with state human rights commission.

Vishal Bansal and Bipin Kumar Pandey have been appointed additional commissioners of police, Jaipur. Girdhari Lal Sharma, who was DIG at CMO, has been moved as DIG with JDA. Rohit Mahajan, SP civil rights, has been made DIG vigilance with the state mines department.

Sachin Mittal, who was additional CP Jaipur and got promoted last week, would be the new police commissioner of Jodhpur. Mittal would take the reins from Biju George Joseph, who has now been assigned the sensitive Bharatpur range as IG. Anand Srivastava, who was IG Bharatpur until now, has been made IG of police headquarters (PHQ), a post that deals with the police transfers.

IG, Udaipur range, Amrit Kalash has been relocated as IG of Ajmer range. Kalash would replace Anil Paliwal, who has been brought to the PHQ as IG reorganization. G N Purohit would be the new IG of Udaipur range. IG Bikaner range, Janardan Sharma has been replaced with L N Meena, who was DIG crime so far. Sharma has been made IG intelligence, Jaipur.

Shiv Lal Joshi, who was superintendent of police of Baran district, has been made DIG jails at Udaipur upon his promotion last week. Besides two DGs, the government has relocated 14 ADGs, 14 IGPs and 10 DIGs.
