The Delhi Government has declined to provide recycled water to Rajasthan Government saying its own water supply is dependent on the neighbouring States Haryana and Uttar Pradesh. In a reply to Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, Delhi Government has declined to provide 40 million gallon per day (MGD) recycled water to run industries in several parts in the State.
It is learnt that Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot may raise the issue with Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit during the AICC Chintan Shivir, being held at Jaipur from January 18 to 20. Gehlot is waging a grim battle to stay afloat as State Assembly elections are not that far. The paucity of water for industries is affecting his Government’s performance and he wanted to lean back on Delhi Chief Minister for rescuing him.
Dikshit too will have to face the electorates in November this year and she can not afford to bail out Gehlot as the national Capital too is faced with water shortage.
Top sources in the Government said that the Delhi Government has made it clear that Delhi has no extra water and it can not provide 40 MGD recycled water to Rajasthan for its industries.
Gehlot has written Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit urging her to provide 40 MGD waste water for its industries in the States. Insiders say that Rajasthan is faced with acute shortage of waste water to run industries in the States.
According to official estimates, the city’s water demand in peak summer months has hit more than 1,150 million gallons a day, but the city is getting only about 835 million gallons a day.
