It’s crunch time for the Election Department and the Jaipur Development Authority (JDA), literally.
Election Department’s list of over a 100 names of JDA employees for election duty is giving sleepless nights to the staff-crunched JDA, with top officials complaining that the steering its staff away from regular duty might result in spurt in the number of encroachments across the city.
According to JDA officials, they have received a list from the Collectorate which has short-listed 121 of its employees for election duties. “Of these 121 staffers, 65 are XEN, tehsildars and other engineers. JDA has a total strength of 55 tehsildars and the names of 42 have been included for poll duty. If these officials go on election duty then who will take care of encroachments in their areas?” JDA officials said, adding, “Every day we receive a list of three to four names.”
Recently, JDA officials were given the power of enforcement officers to check illegal construction and encroachments, as it has been observed that during election time cases of encroachment increase.
Additional commissioner, administration, Anil Agarwal said, “We cannot send such large number of employees for election duty. Discussion with the Election Department has been going on in this regard, and so far, we have sent only 25 per cent of the required staff.”
