Rajasthan State first woman helpline have been launched by any NGO Sambhali Trust and christened as “Nirbhaya Helpline 1800-1200020” is aimed at providing help, advice and counseling to any suffering women from anywhere, 24×7.

“It is a welcome step in an era when about 15% crimes are related to women, ranging from eve-teasing to, as heinous, as rape,” said the IGP Sunil Dutt, adding that such helpline would give women an easy access to an expert, who would be able to help and guide them in resolving their suffering or woes.

He said that in absence of such a mechanism, the last resort for women, subjected to crime, harassment or cruelty, is either to continue being a victim or to approach police. “Many of these women hardly have access to police stations or courage to approach agencies and will be comfortable in making a call to the helpline,” Dutt asserted, assuring that the help of police would always be there to make this helpline meet its objective.

The managing trustee of the trust, Govind Singh Rathore, said that being into the field of women empowerment, they have observed that there are a number of women from the deprived sections of society, who continue to suffer but do not have courage to raise their voice against the crime. “This was how the idea of state’s first toll free, 24X7 helpline number sprang up. Now we could give these suffering women that much-needed voice and help them get justice at whatever cost through this service,” Rathore said.
