Vardhman Mahavir Open University, Kota (VMOU) delivers online lectures

Vardhman Mahavir Open University, Kota (VMOU) is uploading 1000 lectures covering almost all subjects on its website and YouTube to provide students from every corner of the world a classroom like experience.

“Every student has access to the internet and every day spends quality time on it. The lectures, once available on the net, will give them the freedom to view and learn anywhere and anytime,” said vice-chancellor, Kota University, Vinay Kumar Pathak

Pathak said that technological advancement has brought a sea change in the field of education and it has made distance learning more meaningful and result oriented.

VMOU has launched a separate website for research scholars. “Research scholars require in-depth knowledge and the dedicated website will have videos of respected lecturers and guest faculty on different subjects, which will help the scholors,” Pathak added.

The university is also going to open vocational study centers at Pratapgarh and Banswara for the tribals. “Bringing the tribal community into mainstream will only be possible if they will be educated. It is the duty of state education institutes to be the harbinger of change for them,” said Pathak, who was honoured by the World Education Congress in 2012.

The university is plunging into distance education by also developing an open education resource program that will provide quality study material. “The university is introducing short term courses via distance learning so that students enrolled in degree programmes can avail certificates and diploma for value addition,” said Pathak.

They university is uploading 1000 lectures of 10 minutes each on almost all subjects or courses on its website and social media sites like Youtube to provide students classroom like experience from every corner of the world.

KU VC Vinay Kumar Pathak said, “Every student irrespective of its medium has access to internet and spends quality time every day on the net. The lectures relating to their subjects once available on net will give them the freedom to view it or learn it anywhere on their mobile phones and laptops.”

Pathak said that technological advancement has brought a sea change in the field of education. It has made distance learning more meaningful and result oriented, said the VC adding that to strengthen research, they have floated a separate website for research scholars. “Scholars require indept knowledge which can enrich them research. The dedicated website will have videos of leading lecturers and guest faculties on different subjects helping the scholors,” said Pathak.

The university is plunging into distance education learning by developing an open education resource program aiming to provide quality material. “The university is introducing short term courses via distance learning so that students enrolled in degree programmes can avail certificates and diploma to have value addition,” said Pathak, who was appointed the VC in Febuary 2013.

The university is also opening vocational study centers at Pratapgarh and Banswara for tribal aiming for capacity building. “Bringing the tribal community into the mainstream is possible only if the were empowered educationally. It is our duty of state education institutes to be the harbinger of change for them,” said Pathak, who was honoured by World Education Congress in 2012.
