Swine Flu: 11 dies, toll crosses to 200

In the last 24 hours Eleven more persons succumbed to swine flu in different parts of Rajasthan, taking the toll due to the H1N1 virus in the state to 202 this year, an official of Medical and Health Directorate (MHD) said on Thrusday.

A total of 249 new positive cases were reported Thursday, taking the total to 3,897 across the state, a health department official told IANS.

The highest of 34 deaths has been reported from Jaipur, followed by Ajmer with 27.

The state government said it has so far screened over 25.75 lakh patients while door-to-door screening has been conducted on over 24 lakh people. Ashok Pangaria, head of the task force on swine flu, said Tamiflu tablets have been provided to thousands of people.

Meanwhile, the Congress criticised the state government, saying it should ask private hospitals to conduct free swine flu tests. Rajasthan Congress president Archna Sharma said “This will help deal effectively with the medical emergency,”
