The state education department has increased its cash reward under the Indira Priyadarshini Puruskar from Rs 40,000 and 50,000 to 75,000 and Rs 1 lakh, respectively. The award is given every year to the girls of Class XII for topping in each district.

In a similar manner, the cash reward for Gargi Puruskar, which is given to girls who score 75 per cent or more marks in the secondary examinations, has been revised from Rs 4,000 to 6,000. “Soon, we will distribute cheques of Rs 2,500 each to 5 lakh girls who enrolled in Class IX,” said Brij Kishore Sharma, state education minister clarifying that the revised cash rewards is only meant to promote girls’ education.

Sharma was speaking on the occasion of 19th Bhamashah Awards ceremony held at a private hall in Jaipur on Saturday. This award is given to those who made considerable contribution in the field of education.

On the occasion, Sharma affirmed that the government is committed to increasing girls’ gross enrollment ratio, recruitment of teachers and building facilities in school that meet the Right to Education Act (RTE).
