The Chitan Shivir has dealt a thoughtless blow on the already tottering Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation (RTDC). At the peak of its tourist season, the RTDC has been forced to cancel all prior tourist bookings in its flagship hotels Teej and Gangaur, and reserve all rooms in Swagatham Hotel to make way for guests arriving on account of the three-day brainstorming session ‘Chintan Shivir’ in Jaipur slated to begin from January 18th.
There are 42 rooms in Teej, 65 in Gangaur and 40 in Swagatam and in the tourist season, an average of 120 of these remain booked. The loss on account of cancellations is estimated at Rs3 lakh just for accommodation, with catering and transport losses counted over and above this. This includes rooms booked in bulk for events like marriages, which have been cancelled last minute.
Officials don’t know as to who will make good the amount lost or put in by RTDC, or reimburse the Rs 2 crore being pumped into sprucing up the hotels.
