As opposition targeted Narendra Modi over his announcement that the land ordinance will not be promulgated for the fourth time, chief minister Vasundhara Raje defended the Prime Minister saying that his radio address reflected how serious he was about farmers' issue.

"Both Centre and the state government are working in the interests of farmers. We want to provide relief to them as much as possible," Raje told reporters in Dholpur.

“The PM’s ‘Mann ki Baat’ reflects how serious he is about farmers’ issues,” she added.

Dismissing opposition’s criticism that the Prime Minister made a “U-turn” on land acquisition, Raje said chief ministers during the Niti Ayog meeting had suggested him to leave the issue of Land Acquisition Bill to the states.

The Centre today decided to avoid repeated confrontation with the opposition over the land ordinance, with Modi announcing it will not be promulgated for the fourth time as his rivals claimed credit for making it “bow down” on the contentious issue.

The controversial ordinance will expire tomorrow and the government now is likely to take the legislative route for enactment of a national land acquisition law.
