Rajasthan is providing more electricity than other state like Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Punjab and Haryana said the Rajasthan Govt in context of power shortage and phase wise cut to consumers for the last two days.

As against 1,400 lakh units per day supply in 2013 during this time, the state DISCOMs supplying 2100 units every day now (2014), according to an official statement here.

Despite a few hours of power cut, the farmers were getting power for 5 hours daily, and 18 hours in domestic sector. From 7 pm to 7 am (during night) there was no power cut anywhere, the government maintained.

The major power crisis was due to hike in imported coal prices and Supreme Court’s intervention in the matter. Major power generation companies Tata, Adani have reduced the power output causing serious crisis and concern in power sector.

On August 27, Rajasthan’s three power distribution companies (DISCOMs) had begun power cut from two to four hours daily in phased manner in entire state barring six Divisional Headquarters including Jaipur, an official said.

Due to rising temperature and poor rains the power demand has grown above 9,000 MW per day in the state against the availability of 7,500 MW daily, he said.”Power cut is effected every day for four hours in villages and municipal towns, while two hours in district headquarters in phased manner,” a senior official of Energy Department said here.
