Raj Kundra is set to be part of the Rajasthan Royals entourage in the Champions Trophy next month, an official with the team confirmed to TOI on Tuesday. “As far as we are concerned, he has been cleared of all wrongdoings,” the official said. “Raj is now free to be a part of the Royals management once again and we expect him to be present for the team’s matches during the Champions League.”
Kundra was cleared of any wrongdoings by a two-member probe committee constituted by the BCCI. Subsequently, the Bombay High Court had termed this committee unconstitutional and had asked the BCCI to form a new committee.
When reminded about the High Court ruling, the official said that as per their inference, it wasn’t against Kundra. “The High Court’s ruling was in regards to Gurunath Meiyappan and N Srinivasan. Legal authorities told us that Raj is in the clear,” he said.
“As such, there was no case against Raj. Being a British national, he is free to wager bets.” But then, being a part of the Royals management, was he actually free to wager bets during the IPL?
“That was something for the probe committee to decide,” the official said.
Kundra has allegedly accepted having lost money after placing bets during the IPL. Royals had suspended Kundra following his alleged admissions, till the findings of the probe committee.
