The ministry of minority affairs has finally given a nod to set up Khwaja Garib Nawaz University in Ajmer. The university will come up in the Kayar area. Government has sanctioned 80 hectares of land for it. The proposal was passed in the high core meeting held in New Delhi on Monday.
The ministry is starting nearly five such universities related to minorities in five states. The dargah committee had prepared a proposal of Khwaja Garib Nawaz University. “The committee had asked for 500 hectares of land for the university. The ministry proposed 80 hectares land near Kayar if it was suitable. And the ministry officials will now conduct a survey and have constituted a committee for it which will is likely to visit Ajmer on September 8,” said Mohammad Obedullah Sharif, chairman of the dargah committee.
Sources added that the committee has also demanded land from the state government for the university. “Minister A R Rehman is supporting the project and also spoke to the state government,” said the dargah chairman. The minority ministry is also opening universities in West Bengal, Kerala, Karnataka, and Bihar and Amethi in Uttar Pradesh. “The proposal is to start different technical courses with the support of Jamia Islamia University and slowly the university will develop its own curriculum,” said sources.
The university is meant to spread Sufi teachings apart from offering courses on minority culture and language. “It was in pipeline since last two years and now the university has got official sanction,” added officials.
