The Jaipur Metro Rail Corporation (JMRC) has decided to take up the construction work for Metro project phase I (B), while operation and maintenance of the Jaipur Metro phase – I has been given to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) on Thursday.

In the 13th meeting of the board of directors, it was decided that the JMRC will make a foray into the construction work of the Metro corridor proposed from Badi Chaupar to Chandpole, based on an engineering-procurement-construction (EPC) model.

Chief managing director, JMRC, N C Goyal said, “We have decided to construct phase I (B) on our own. The corporation is equipped with all the resources and is confident to take up the construction work. Phase I (B) will be an extension of phase I, so it is expected that not much difficulty will be faced.”

He added, “The DMRC has shown their consent to be associated as the project management consultant for assistance and expertise. The agreement will be signed in this regard.”

Currently, JMRC is acting as a nodal agency for Jaipur Metro’s phase I (Mansarovar to Chandpole), while DMRC is constructing the corridor. The state government had recently announced that it would lay the foundation stone for the Metro project phase I (B) in July-August 2013 around 15 days after the first phase becomes operational.

On the other hand, to operate Jaipur Metro under the surveillance of experts, the DMRC has given work for operation and maintenance for one year after completion of the project. A DMRC official said, “Even after the Jaipur Metro starts rolling, the DMRC will continue to complete the remaining work at the sites. Under such circumstances, it’s difficult to coordinate with another firm and carry out work.”

In the meeting, directions were also given to DMRC to prepare to start the survey work and present revised plan plans to link Jaipur Metro (phase II) with Sanganer Airport.
