The southwest monsoon may be delayed by a week, the weatherman said, even as a southwest driven western disturbance gave further respite from the scorching heat to people in Rajasthan today.

The movement of clouds or minor precipitation in isolated areas was just due to southwest western disturbance over the state, a state Met official told.

At present, the southwest monsoon which moved up to Maharashtra is nowhere active in north India, and it may be delayed by one more week, if the favorable weather conditions do not prevail in the state, the official said.

Southwest monsoon used to arrive either in the second week of June or by June end in Rajasthan. Now there was no sign of monsoon arrival on the weather map, he said.

Jaisalmer recorded a maximum temperature of 41.1 degree Celsius while at other places including Ajmer, Pilani, Kota, Chittorgarh, Udaipur, Barmer, Jodhpur, Bikaner, Churu and Sriganganagar districts, it settled between 35.8 and 40.5 degrees Celsius.
