Similar to SRK-starrer thriller Baazigar, a body in a box triggered panic at sleeper coach number 7 of Avadh-Assam Express when the body of a woman was discovered in an iron chest after the train reached Lalgarh railway station in Bikaner.

The body was partially charred and was beyond identification, according GRP officers.

Around 5.40 am on Monday, the GRP received a complaint from the control office that passengers of S-7 were complaining of stench from a huge chest which was lying near the toilet in the coach.

RPF and GRP teams rushed to the spot while the train stopped at Lalgarh railway station.

“After breaking the locks, a body wrapped in a thick polybag was found inside the box. It was a woman’s corpse,” senior GRP officer confirmed.

According to the medical team, the woman was killed apparently two days ago and the body was neatly packed in the box and loaded onto the train which left for Bikaner from Guwahati.

GRP sources added that apparently acid was sprinkled on the face to destroy the identity.

Police officers said there were no other injury marks.

“The body has been sent for post mortem and viscera examination. The exact causes of the death and if she was raped would be ascertained only after we get these reports,” said a senior police officer.

GRP sources said they have also sought a list of passengers travelling in the coach and will also visit Guwahati, if needed.

What is stunning is that though the train travelled all the way from Guwahati, how come no railway official suspected anything foul even as the box was lying in the corridor for the past two days!
