With the recent IPL Spot fixing case which is going in SC , it has asked BCCI that the Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals should not be allowed in this IPL 7. The apex court also has suggested that Sunil Gavaskar should be named as BCCI Chief and current chief N Srinivasan should step aside.
“In the place of Srinivasan, we propose to appoint an experienced cricket player like Sunil Gavaskar to replace him and function as BCCI president,” justice A.K. Patnaik said at a hearing in New Delhi.
The Supreme Court, which on Tuesday wanted Srinivasan to step down as president to ensure a fair probe into the IPL betting and match-fixing scandal, will now pass an interim an order on Friday. The top court made no decision on Srinivasan today, whose son-in-law Gurunath Meiyappan of Chennai Super Kings has been indicted for betting and sharing team information.
Earlier on Thursday, the BCCI offered a compromise solution. The Board’s lawyers said Srinivasan would “step aside” to ensure a fair probe. Offering a time-bound inquiry to be conducted by the Chennai police, the Board requested the court not to curtail Srinivasan’s hefty role in international cricket.
