One of the three infants who sustained burn injuries in the fire at PBM Hospital in Bikaner died while undergoing treatment on Tuesday. The child had suffered burns due to intense smoke during the fire that broke out in the hospital’s children nursery on Sunday.
Baby Ekta was born prematurely. PBM Hospital’s child unit head Dr Renu Agrawal said that the baby was born in the seventh month of pregnancy and weighed just 1.4 kg.
“A baby should normally weigh 3 kg, so her condition was already serious. The baby was undergoing treatment for being underweight for the past 15 days. Her skin had turned black,” said Dr Agrawal.
