In a late night development, superintendent of police, Ajmer, Rajesh Meenawas arrested by the officials of Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) following araid at his official residence. ACB officials had seized Rs 5.05 lakh unaccounted money from his house.
Inspector general of police, ACB, Umesh Mishra confirmed that the SP was arrested late in the night under charges of amassing disproportionate income and misuse of office.
According to ACB sources, man on behalf of the SP had collected the said money from various police stations in Ajmer and brought it to his official residence.
Sources said that the ACB got a tip-off that one Ramdev, a resident of Jodhpur, collected money from various police station in-charges in Ajmer and reached the residence of Rajesh Meena, superintendent of police.
Based on the tip-off, an ACB team conducted a surprise raid at the bungalow of Rajesh Meena and found a bag lying on the table of drawing room. Since the bag contained Rs 2.05 lakh, the SP was quizzed about the money.
“When he failed to establish the source of the money, it was seized by our team. Later, other rooms of the residence were also searched and Rs 3 lakh more were seized. A total of Rs 5.05 lakh was seized by our men,” said Umesh Mishra, inspector general, ACB.
“It was found that Ramdev is known to the SP ever since the latter’s tenure in Jodhpur and he used to collect money from various police stations and submits it to the officer,” Mishra added.
The IG did not rule out bribe angle as the ACB would investigate under what circumstances the subordinates were sending the money to the officer. The sources of income of various police stations from where the money was sent to SP would also be probed, he said. “We are not ruling out anything and will thoroughly investigate the matter,” Mishra added.
“The matter is still under investigation,” he added.
Meanwhile, Ramdev has confessed that he brought the money in the bag to deliver it to the SP, said ACB officials. He has been arrested on charges of criminal conspiracy (120-B ). Earlier in the day, senior IPS officers at police headquarters were seen asking each other about the developments in Ajmer. Sources said that many even called up DGP Harish Meena.
