Bharat Kumar, the accused in the Ajmer Dargah blast case of 2007, has been shifted to the Sawai Man Singh (SMS) Hospital, as his condition deteriorated after he sat on an indefinite hunger strike, protesting against Union home minister Sushilkumar Shinde’s statement accusing the BJP and RSS of promoting “Hindu terrorism”.
He has been shifted from Ajmer Central Jail to SMS Hospital after he sat on indefinite hunger strike since January 25. It has been four days since he sat on hunger strike.
Bharat Kumar’s lawyer Gurcharan Singh Gill said, “His condition is critical as there has been no urine output, putting pressure on his kidneys which may lead to multiple organ failure.” Gill alleged that the jail authorities did not inform his family about his condition and after seeing that is condition was deteriorating he was brought to the SMS Hospital.
SMS Hospital’s spokesperson Dr Rakesh Sharma said that a four-member medical board has been constituted to review his condition. The members include Dr Renu Sehgal, Dr Dhananjay Aggarwal, Dr Raman Sharma and Dr Suman Dutta. According to the board’s report, Bharat Kumar’s condition is stable and his blood pressure count is normal, but there has been no urine output, due to which he has dehydrated.
“We have written a letter to the jail authorities to forcefully feed him fluids, as with the passage of time it will put pressure on his kidneys,” said SMS Hospital spokesperson. He added the hospital cannot feed him as he is refusing food and only the jail authorities can force him.
