Protesting Teachers Approach Over Rajasthan University Dean Appoinment

The growing rift between Rajasthan University’s teachers and vice-chancellor has now reached a new level with the protesting teachers approaching the governor.

A section of teachers from the commerce department locked horns with the V-C B L Sharma over the appointment of one teacher T N Mathur as its dean.

The teachers contended that Mathur is quite junior in the department and therefore, his appointment as the dean is seen as deliberately ignoring the seniors for the post.

The V-C, however, justified his move and said that he has used his extra ordinary right for the appointment. A section of teachers had complained to the chancellor (governor) that V-C had misused his powers and ignored the university handbook while appointing a teacher who is less experienced.

The governor issued a notice to the V-C seeking explanation on the complaint. Furious over the move, the V-C on November 26 served notices to the teachers seeking their explanation as to why and in what capacity they had approached governor.

Another teacher who was served notice said if they fail to get a reprieve from the Governor House, then the matter will be directed to the court.

“The appointment is first of its kind in the 65-year-old RU where HODs and seniors were ignored for this post. It is undemocratic on the part of V-C to serve notices to suppress our voice,” said a teacher.

TOI called T N Mathur several times, but he refused to speak and disconnected the call.
