The Rajasthan high court on Wednesday asked advocate general G S Bapna to justify the state government’s recent decision to increase overall reservation in jobs for the socially deprived communities to 54% from 49%.
The bench also asked Bapna to explain why, in the absence of a justification, the 5% reservation granted to the special backward classes (SBC) that has taken the overall reservation beyond the permissible 50% limit be not stayed for the time being.
The division bench of Justice N K Jain and Justice J K Ranka, which took up the matter on the basis of a PIL filed by one Mukesh Solanki asked the advocate general to come prepared with the justification on Thursday.
