Rajasthan State Govt taking a last minute step for the poor and homeless in providing shelters to prevent from cold at night. Government has introduced 10 mobile night shelters to provide relief in areas which don’t have shelters. The old buses of Rajasthan roadways are being modified at the roadways workshop at Chomu Circle. In less than a week, these buses will be ready to provide shelter to the poor and needy.
“They will be positioned at key areas like bus station, railway station, Bais Godam, opposite SMS hospital to name a few. Some buses will be reserved for women and children,” said an official. The move came after media reports highlighted that of the total 28 night shelters in the city, none of them is dedicated to women and children.
“The negligible presence of women and children in separate sections of shelters has forced them to sleep outside. But this dedicated shelters will ensure safety and security to them. Some buses will be stationed in specific areas to provide shelter to the poor,” said an official.
The move seemed to be inspired by the Kejriwal-led Delhi government which has made provision of shelters in old buses. The city has 28 night shelters and most of them are flouting the norms on hygiene, water and security.
