AAP state unit after finding irregularities in management of party funds in party unit suspends its working committee in Ajmer. AAP Ajmer also not submitted its membership drive records on time.
The decision came on Wednesday, a day after the expelled convener of Ajmer AAP unit, Kirti Phatak, had gone against the party lines and boycotted the address of AAP state unit convener Ashok Jain during a membership drive in Ajmer on Tuesday. “He not only disrupted the party meeting but also raised anti-party slogans and threw chairs on other members. The act is unpardonable and deserved serious punishment. It has dented the image of party in the city,” said Rajesh Pareek, state secretary of AAP.
Tuesday’s incident came as an embarrassment for the party which claimed to be different from others trapped in infightings. Eyewitness said people who have gathered to see and hear Jain, and national leader and poet Shahnaz Hindustani returned disappointed. Even the efforts of Jain and Hindustani to pacify the unruly members fell on deaf ears. “They tried to stop the members from any act of violence and infighting but no one paid any heed to them,” an eyewitness said.
The party has issued a statement saying that nobody in Ajmer is authorized to collect funds for the party on behalf of AAP. “Those interested in donating funds for the party can log on to the main website of AAP,” said party leader Mulkraj Anand. The party has also asked members to start the membership drive and submit details on the its website.
Taking a serious view of the incident, the party has reported the matter to its national leaders. “The party will inquire about the irregularities in funds,” Mulkraj said.
The party is also struggling to stop the newly joined party members who are releasing statement on behalf of AAP on the incident. Sources said APP has warned several leaders who have joined the party to not make any statement unless they were told to do so.
