To make it easier for patients to identify senior and resident doctors, Sawai Man Singh (SMS) hospital will soon start uniform codes.
Senior doctors will wear blue uniform at the outpatient department and also at the indoor ward, while resident doctors will don grey uniform.
Taking a leaf out of private hospitals, SMS hospital is going corporate as it is planning to roll out a policy for colour-coded attire for all staffers. The hospital has initiated this change in the surgical department II and V recently on a trial basis. The hospital claimed that they are doing it to create an environment of more clinical excellence and caring for patients.
The policy will be applied to trolley men, ward boys, lab technicians and other staff . The hospital claimed that with the colour-coded attires, patients will easily differentiate between senior and resident doctors, between nurses and technical staff and between trolley men and other caregivers. “At present , there is no such colour-coded attire policy in the hospital. Thecolour-coded attire policy is common in private hospitals with a chain of hospitals in bigger cities,” a hospital administration official said.
The official said the colour combination for ward boys, technicians and other medical staff has not been decided.
