The violence hit areas including Bhandarez Mode, Sikandara and Indira Colony remained tense but incident free on Monday amid heavy police presence.
At least 16 FIRs have been registered at various police stations by residents who were robbed or their houses torched by miscreants while four FIRs on the Saturday violence during students’ elections were also lodged.
The police have, so far, arrested 24 persons allegedly responsible for disturbing peace, arson and vandalizing private property.
Various units of the police, including Rapid Action Force (RAF), Rajasthan Armed Constabulary (RAC) and Special Task Force (STF) were deployed in the violence-hit areas. IG, Jaipur range Saurabh Srivastav also camped in Dausa throughout the day and urged his men to expedite the process of arresting those responsible for violence and arson.
“We have already received 16 FIRs from those whose houses were vandalized and torched. Police have also lodged 4 suo-motu FIRs in this connection. Of the 24 arrested persons, four booked under serious criminal offences were remanded in judicial custody by the court,” Srivastav said.
Meanwhile, the district administration held a meeting to ensure law and order is maintained during the oath taking ceremony of the winning candidates of the student union polls. Usually, winning candidates and their units invite celebrities or parliamentarians to the ceremony.
“We will review the situation whenever the oath taking ceremony is organized. At any cost we will ensure that law and order is maintained. The student leaders will also be asked to cooperate,” said Muktanand Agarwal, district collector, Dausa.
The Section 144 that was clamped on the district on Saturday continued within the Dausa municipal limits.
On Monday, large number of residents reached the district collectorate to hand over a memorandum citing losses incurred to the collector.
“We have asked officials to start the survey of the losses. As per law, we will compensate the victims,” the collector said.
Many shops and showrooms remained closed in Dausa. The traffic on the national highway 11 was smooth after being reopened to the public on Sunday evening.
“The areas where blockage was witnessed have been properly cordoned.
The traffic on the Dausa-Agra highway passing through Bhandarez Mode and Sikandara Mode, where buses and bikes were torched, was smooth,” said a senior police officer.
