Moderate to heavy rainfall lashed eastern Rajasthan on Wednesday. Pipalda in Baran district received 110mm rainfall, the highest in the state.

Monsoon, however, continued to give the parched districts in western Rajasthan a miss.

Heavy rain in Baran district claimed a 35-year-old primary school teacher. She was swept away while crossing a rain-fed nullah. One of her colleagues too was on the verge of being swept away by the gushing waters.

According to the police, Anita Agarwal, a primary school teacher at a government school at Amali village in Baran, lost her balance while crossing a rain-fed nullah at 10 am on Wednesday. “Her colleague Rehana, who initially lost balance, managed to somehow cross the stretch,” said a senior police officer.

The divers, till last reports came in, were trying to fish out her body. The nullah merges into Parvati river which has been overflowing since torrential rain struck on Saturday.

Heavy downpour continued in the Hadauti region, including Kota, Baran and Jhalawar districts. Many villagers were still camping at the temporary shelter provided by the district administration. In low-lying areas remained water logged and the administration is yet to drain out the water. Locals, irked over the lethargic attitude of the administration, protested outside the district collectorate, Baran.

In Jaipur, scattered rainfall was witnessed in several parts. Many areas did not witness a single drop of water, however many areas including walled city, Tonk Road, JLN marg, Malviya Nagar, Raja Park and Jawahar Nagar witnessed a heavy rainfall which caused troubles to the commuters.

Meanwhile, Anta, Bakani, Ramganjmandi, Govindgarh and Sriganganagar received a rainfall of 40 mm. Many places in the southern Rajasthan also witnessed rainfall varying between 30 mm and10 mm.

The Met office predicted mild to moderate showers will continue in the state for the next 24 hours in the eastern districts of the state.
