Monsoon rains lashed almost every part of the state on Monday. Western Rajasthan, where rain has been elusive, too witnessed rainfall. Dausa recorded the highest rainfall at 110mm.

Jaipur met office said that southwest monsoon has gained momentum over the past couple of days and heavy rainfall is likely in eastern parts of the state.

Districts including Jaipur, Dausa, Bharatpur, Kota, Jhalawar, Baran, Chittorgarh and Udaipur are likely to witness heavy rainfall in next couple of days.

Overnight rain in Jaipur brought down the mercury by several notches. By afternoon, it again started drizzling followed by moderate rainfall in early evening hours.

The city witnessed nearly 70 mm of rainfall till 8.30pm, which is the highest this season so far.

Commuters had a tough time with the rain throwing traffic out of gear in almost every part of the city. Arterial roads such as MI Road, Tonk Road, JLN Marg, Jawahar Circle and part of Walled City witnessed heavy water logging and traffic snarls.

Despite the flood-like situations witnessed the previous years, the civic bodies have failed to address the problem of drainage and localities like Murlipura, Sanganer, Jhotwara and Galta Gate suffered water-logging woes.

The situation in low-lying areas of the city is alarming.

Along with the vagaries, the monsoon spelt joy for Jaipurites and the cool evening breeze brought out people in droves to popular spots like the Nahargarh and Jaigarh forts and nearby picnic spots like Kanora Dam. Bike enthusiasts enjoyed long drives while getting drenched.

After Dausa, Veir in Bharatpur received a maximum rainfall of 100mm, followed by 90mm rainall in Bari in Dholpur while Bassi recorded 70mm rainfall.

Bansur in Bharatpur recorded 60 mm rainfall, followed by Sapotara in Karauli and Bamanwas in Sawai Madhopur with 50mm rainfall.

Rainfall between 10mm and 40mm was reported at many places in the northern and eastern parts of the state.

Normal life was hit in the eastern Rajasthan that includes Dausa, Bharatpur, Alwar, Karauli and Sawai Madhopur districts which received maximum rainfall. Roads in the interior parts of the villages in these districts had been washed away and buses owned by the private operators and state were stranded.

The Jaipur met office predicts widespread rain in the state for the next 48 hours.
