The Indian Railways and Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation (RTDC) are planning a major refurbishment of luxury trains like the Palace on Wheels (POW) and Royal Rajasthan on Wheels (RROW).
“Over the years we have been very sensitive to the guests’ expectations. We have compiled feedback and are now acting on it to renovate the trains to enhance the magic of splendid journeys. We have extensively researched princely lifestyles and the trains will sport a new heritage look with the finest trappings you’d expect from a luxe train,” said Vinod Ajmera, managing director, RTDC.
Elaborating on the details, Ajmera said that all facilities in the trains are being modernized including water purifiers in washrooms aside from superior communication and entertainment devices. Even the dining cart, the bar and lounge will be given a new look. The spa and health club will get major upgrades.
While the POW journey covers Delhi, Jaipur, Sawai Madhopur, Udaipur, Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, Bharatpur and Agra; the RROW route includes Delhi, Jodhpur, Udaipur, Chittorgarh, Sawai Madhopur, Jaipur, Khajuraho, Varanasi and Agra.
As for the RROW makeover, the wooden floors would be covered with exquisite carpets to minimize noise. Further, new doors will replace existing ones. Besides, the train speed will also be increased so that guests spend less time on wheels and enjoy more time at the destinations. “However, the itinerary and tariffs for the trains will remain same in 2013-14, though they are likely to be increased in the next season,” said Ajmera.
