The Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC) will restart its drive to remove encroachments along the catchment area of Amaniashah Nullah from July 3 as per the extended given deadline given by the Rajasthan High Court.

On May 24 when JMC started the anti-encroachment drive they faced huge protest and the Corporation had to stall the drive after demolition of around 40 houses.

Civil line zone commissioner, Mukesh Meena said, “Around 3.5 kilometre area falls in the jurisdiction of JMC and one kilometre area have been vacated from encroachment. With adequate police force the drive would be started at 10 am at Sushilpura area on Wednesday.”

Last time people pelted stones at the enforcement team and strongly protested which forced the JMC to stop the drive but this time our aim is to vacate the entire area.

Around 400 houses were being constructed in the catchment area which falls in the JMC region. This means that more than 350 houses would be razed during the second phase of the drive.

JMC has started distribution of cheques worth Rs. 2,500 among the displaced people for paying their monthly rental and these cheques will be given till six months and after that plots measuring 60X60 square yard at Mundia Purohitan area will also be given to the displaced people for their rehabilitation.

The High Court had directed the JMC to carry out the demolition drive in its jurisdiction of the catchment area to widen the Nullah by 150-210 feet.

But at present the prime concern of the people who are to face demolition drive is that during the monsoon season if the JMC demolishes their houses then where would they take shelter as they will not be able to find rooms on rent instantly in city.
