The cut-off for admissions in the four main constituent colleges of the University of Rajasthan (RU) has taken everyone by surprise. The percentage has witnessed a steep rise not only in general category but also in reserved (SC/ST/OBC/SBC) categories.
Rajasthan College released its first cut-off for BA (Pass) on Friday. “We have given admissions to 313 students in the first cut-off for BA (Pass). They will have to deposit fee by July 3.
However, the cut-off for reserved categories is difficult to compare with general category immediately and the difference can be known once the second list is out,” said Alpana Kateja, principal, Rajasthan College.
In general category, cut-off percentage was at 79% while in OBC, ST and SBC, it was 78%, narrowing the competition among students of general and other categories.
In SC category, cut-off was 73%. Last year, it was 78.20% while in OBC it was 75%. Similarly, in ST category, it was 76.40% and in SC 73% . Likewise in other RU colleges, cut-off in reserved categories has seen a more rise than general.
In Maharani’s College, percentage in general category rose to 95% in 2013 from last year’s 93.6% while in three reserved categories, there was an increase of 3%.
“The previous cut-offs witnessed high percentage in OBC category. Ditto with other reserved categories. If an OBC candidate secures high percentage, his OBC status will not be considered and he will be treated as general,” said NM Sharma, vice-principal, Maharani’s College.
Its first cut-off will be declared on Saturday.
Maharaja, Maharani’s and Commerce colleges to come out with lists today
The anxious wait of students for admissions in the constituent colleges of University of Rajasthan (RU) will end on Saturday as the three main colleges will announce their cut-off lists.
Nearly 90% seats will be filled while the other lists for admissions will be announced seeing the availability of the seats.
University’s Maharaja College will announce its first cut-off for 1,020 seats for BSc (Pass and Hons) and BCA at 5 pm on Saturday.
Similarly, Commerce College will release second cut-off for BCom (Pass and Hons), BBA and BCA at 3 pm. In this list, nearly 500 students will get admissions.
In Maharani’s too, the first cut-off will be announced for various courses.
“As per admission schedule, we will announce first cut-off at 5pm. Admissions will be given on 1,020 seats and most seats are expected to fill up. Students, who don’t deposit fees, will be removed and a new list will be announced after the last date of depositing fee,” said Dr DB Rao, admission in-charge, Maharaja College.
Notably, this year, colleges gave direct admissions to students scoring above a specific percentage as they do not have to wait for the cut-offs.
“Direct admissions have been given on 373 seats. Now, the first cut-off of the college will be declared tomorrow (Saturday),” said a Maharani’s College faculty.
