The eastern and south western parts of the state covering Kota, Jhalawar, Sawai Madhopur and Alwar witnessed mild to moderate rain on Thursday. The Met office in Jaipur said that the southwest monsoon has gained momentum and in the coming days widespread rain would be witnessed in state.

The long-awaited monsoon provided relief to the people in many districts as Ramganjmandi (Kota) received a maximum rain of 120 mm on Thursday. Normal life was affected at many hamlets near Ramganjmandi. It was followed by Mangrol (Baran) and Sikrai (Dausa) 90 mm, Anta (Baran), Khandar (Sawai Madhopur) and Rajgarh (Alwar) 70 mm. Likewise, 60 to 50 mm of rain was recorded at various places in Jhalawar district.

Jaipur received 13.3 mm rain in the wee hours but the city also witnessed a maximum temperature of 37.8 degrees celsius. However, no rain was recorded throughout the day despite cloudy conditions. The Met office said that since the southwest monsoon has gained momentum, there is a possibility of mild to moderate showers in Jaipur in two days.

The predictions of Jaipur Met office on Wednesday relating to heavy rain in the southern Rajasthan did not turn into reality as mild to moderate showers were witnessed in the state except Kota division including Kota, Jhalwar and Baran districts of the state.

However, rain remained elusive in western Rajasthan including Sriganganagar, Barmer, Jaisalmer, Jodhpur and Churu where mercury continued to take an upward swing. Churu remained hottest in the state recording a maximum temperature of 42.5 degrees Celsius. It was followed by Sriganganagar which recorded a maximum temperature of 42.3 degrees celsius, Bikaner and Pilani 39.5 each, Jaisalmer 38.3, Jodhpur 38.3, Ajmer 37 and Kota 35 degrees celsius.

In its forecast, the Jaipur Met office said that mild to moderate showers would continue in the southern parts and monsoon rain will occur in western Rajasthan in the next 48 hours.
