With waving of the Urs flag in the dargah of Khawaja Moinuddin Chishti on Tuesday evening, the 801st Urs started informally. The Gori family of Bhilawara put up the flag on the Buland darwaza. The Urs will start formally with the sighting of moon which will be either on May 11 or 12.
With a large procession in which thousands of devotees participate, the flag of the Urs was taken out from the dargah guest house. The head of the family of Gori family, Fakhuddin Gori, was the flag bearer. The procession went on to the Nizam gate and entered the dargah and the flag was put up on the buland darwaza.
On the occasion, cannons from the hills of Bada peer were fired and different instruments were played during the procession. The devotees also raised the slogan “Khawaja ka daman nahi chodenge” during the procession and special prayers were offered in the dargah. With the informal start of the Urs, the timings of offering prayers in the crypt will also change. Prayers in the afternoon will be closed and is shifted to eight in the evening.
The district administration has taken up extra measures for security and other arrangements. Heavy police force is deployed in the dargah region and also inside the premises. Newly deputed Nazim Ansar Ahemad looked after the arrangements of the ritual in the dargah.
