A special court on Monday sent two accused Hitesh Sharma and Abdul Razak to jail and allowed custody of Hemraj Kanawat and Rajesh Sharma to the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) till May 3 in connection with the scam in recruitment of clerks for the district and sessions court here.
The ACB pleaded in the court that they need custody of the accused for their identification parade before candidates who had given money for the recruitment.
Additional SP (ACB) Hardayal on Monday produced the four accused in the court and asked for extension of remand for Rajesh and Hemraj. The bureau said investigation in the case is on and they need custody of the two accused for further verification. Later, the court allowed ACB further custody of Rajesh and Hemraj.
Sources said ACB called the candidates who gave money to these racketeers for the clerk examination. “We have to follow the legal process and wanted to conduct an identification parade of accused before the candidates,” a source said.
Meanwhile ACB conducted several raids in Ajmer and Jaipur to catch the absconding accused Bhagwan Singh but failed to get hold of him. “We have put surveillance and will catch him soon,” the official said. Bhagwan Singh fled on last Tuesday when the ACB raided his house at New Kayast Colony in Ajmer.
Interestingly, a group of advocates expressed their anger with the ACB charging it with partiality and demanded arrest of the former district and session judge who was reportedly involved in the scam. The former district and session judge is now posted at a family court in Banswara.
The ACB is now trying to verify the statement of Hemraj who claimed that the former district and session court judge was involved in the scam.
Hemraj also told ACB that when he asked from the judge to adjust some candidates in the pass list, the judge had given him assurance. The FIR of the ACB also stated that they have verified from different sources that Hemraj and the judge were involved in the scam.
The ACB busted the racket of recruiting clerks and stenographers in the district and session court on Tuesday last week when the court administration was preparing to release the final result of the recruitment. Just after the arrest of four accused, the high court administration shifted the district and session judge Ajay Kumar Sharda to Banswara. The newly appointed judge Umesh Kumar Sharma suspended the process of recruitment till further orders.
This is the third immense corruption case that emerged in Ajmer in the last four months after the arrest of Ajmer SP Rajesh Meena, arrest of financial advisor Narendra Kumar Tanwar of the Rajasthan Board of Secondary Education who was found possessing property and cash worth about Rs 80 crore.
