Rajasthan University on Wednesday announced the final list of candidates contesting the students’ union polls-2013.

Nine candidates including one girl are fighting for the president’s post.

Five candidates including three girls are eyeing the post of vice-president while 11 students are in fray for general secretary post and five for joint secretary.

Both NSUI and ABVP have successfully managed withdrawal of their rebel members for the top post.

ABVP has offered plum posts to two of its rebels-Ashish Mishra and Jeetendra Singh Shekawat-on the condition that they recall their names for president’s post. Mishra has been made chief of RU unit of ABVP.

Similarly, Hussain Sultania, a rebel in NSUI has withdrawn his nomination for president but is now gunning for general secretary’s role.

Another rebel Sunil Kumar Yadav who joined hands with Indian National Lok Dal party was declared ineligible to contest. Now, NSUI is claiming to have a direct fight with ABVP.

Surendra Chaudhary, a former president of Rajasthan College, who was denied ticket for the top post by the NSUI has joined ABVP along with his loyalists. Sources said he may dent NSUI’s Jat vote bank.

With the withdrawal of several candidates at the last minute, the contest is now between NSUI, ABVP and newly launched National People’s Party Students Union under Rajesh Mandia, a NSUI rebel.

As the final list is out, parties are busy preparing their strategies for election.

“Our panel will cover RU and its constituent colleges latest by Thursday afternoon and then will head for Chomu which also has around 200 voters,” said Sunil Khatik of ABVP.

Of the 30 candidates in the fray, only four are girls. However, those nominated are running for top posts.
