53.55 % Increase in Employment in State

Finally Rajasthan state is in the lead in something good, according to the recent census state has registered 53.55% growth in employment from year 2005 to 2013 while the number of establishments rose by 51.20%. Among the major states (by size and population), Rajasthan’s record in employment growth is next only to Uttar Pradesh (75%) and Gujarat (56%).

According to the Sixth Economic Census, which was conducted between January 2013 and April 2014, Rajasthan has 4.97% of establishments of the country’s total. Establishment is defined as the unit engaged in economic activity for selling the produce. The survey excluded crop production, plantation, public administration and defence.

Most of the establishments, 65% are in rural Rajasthan employing nearly 60% of the population. Urban areas have 35% of these units and their contribution in employment is 40%.

The census also surveyed the number of handicrafts and employment it generates in each state. After West Bengal (3.5 lakh) and UP (3.5 lakh), Rajasthan has most numbers of handicraft and handlooms establishment (1.6 lakhs). Overall it generates 7.57% of total employment in both urban and rural Rajasthan.
