The Vardhman Mahaveer Open University (VMOU) in Kota will set up study centres in Banswara and Pratapgarh district which have a large population of Bhil tribals.

VMOU vice-chancellor professor Vinay Pathak said that Margaret Alva, the governor of Rajasthan and also the chancellor of the university, has entrusted the varsity the responsibility of spreading education among tribals. Once they get education, they will be able to benefit from government schemes, he said.

Pathak said that VMOU would set up 4 to 5 more study centres in Banswara and Pratapgarh districts in the next 2 months. He said there was only one study centre in these districts. “VMOU will make efforts to improve educational levels in these two districts inhabited by tribals,” he said. If found necessary, a regional centre of VMOU may also be opened in these districts, he added.
