A minor argument over playing laud music at Sawai Man Singh (SMS) Medical College hostel turned violent with students clashed with each other on Saturday late night.

Sources said the matter turned ugly when some students hurled casteist remarks on an undergraduate student. During the violence, one side even tried to set ablaze rooms and vehicles of the other group in the hostel.

A doctor who stays at the hospital told DNA on the condition of anonymity, “On Saturday night, an undergraduate student who was studying in his room got disturbed as some other students were holding a party and listening to loud music. He requested them to stop playing music, but in return, they hurled casteist remarks on him triggering a clash.” In the violence, some students received minor injuries. The doctor added that later, some students also tried to set ablaze the rooms and vehicles belonging to the students of other group.

On Sunday, three FIRs were registered in this regard by both the sides at Moti Doongri police station. But police station officials didn’t pulge any information regarding the matter. Tejpal Singh, ACP Gandhinagar, confirmed that three complaints were lodged. “Our warden committee members are trying to talk to both the sides and the situation has become normal,” said Dr Subhash Nepalia, principal, SMS Medical College. Notably, it was the third incident of hostel students clashing with each other on caste lines within a fortnight.
