Rekha Bhardwaj to entertain Jaipurites on TOI’s 175 years celebration

Rekha Bhardwaj, eminent classical and playback singer will entertain Jaipurites on January 12 to celebrate TOI’s 175 years. National award winner Bhardwaj is all set to mesmerize the people of Jaipur with her distinctive style of singing. To celebrate TOI’s 175 years, the singer is all set to perform at the SMS Investment ground opposite Rambagh Palace.

Bhardwaj is not only liked by those who have some know-how on the classical and sufiana music but also by the youngsters since she has sung songs like ‘Oye boy oye boy Charlie’ (Matru Ki Bijli Ka Mandola) and ‘Ghagra’ (Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani). She is the wife of music director and composer Vishal Bhardawaj.

She is the one singer who can’t be slotted in one genre as her voice fits in every existent genre. She has sung in over 40 Bollywood movies and many regional movies since 1997. Her song ‘Kaise teri khudgarzi’, ‘Kabira’ from the movie Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani were chartbusters for weeks in 2013. Songs like ‘Hamari atariya pe’ and ‘Jagaave saari raina’ from the upcoming Dedh Ishqiya featuring Madhuri Dixit and Naseeruddin Shah are already on top of everyone’s playlist.

The singer shot to fame in Hindi cinema with the film Ishqiya in 2011 for which she received a National Film Award for the Best Female Playback Singer. The next year, she won the Filmfare Award for Best Playback Singer (Female) along with Usha Uthup for the song ‘Darling’ from 7 Khoon Maaf. Her playback singing in movies like Omkara (title track), Delhi-6 (‘Sasural genda phool’), Barfi (‘Phir le aaya’) has been a big success.

She saw a handful of assignments in 2013 as she got to sing for at least six films including-‘Oye boy Charlie’ (Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola), ‘Mast kalandar’ (David), ‘Humnasheen’ (Humnasheen), ‘Kabira’ and ‘Ghagra’ (Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani), ‘Ek ghadi’ (D-Day), ‘Hamari atariya pe’ and ‘Jagaave saari Raina’ (Dedh Ishqiya).
