Rajasthan State have registered an exceptional growth in the milk production in country which have placed it in second position with 28% growth in milk production in the country. Andhra Pradesh had registered a growth rate of 41%. Rajasthan has also retained the second place of being the highest producer of milk after Uttar Pradesh.
In a study conducted by the industry group ASSOCHAM, it is revealed that in terms of per-capita milk availability, Rajasthan has 538 gram which is more than double the national average of 252 gram.
“At a compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) of over 4%, milk production in India is expected to rise to by about 177mt by 2019-2020,” the report says. Rajasthan which contributes 11% of the total milk production is set to a play major role in the projected output.
“Given the quantity of milk production and size of the state, we should have many brands of milk. We process only 10% of the total milk produced, which should be enhanced,” said A K Gahlot, vice-chancellor, Rajasthan University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences.
