Delay of almost five hours failed to keep the Rajasthan Fashion Week from having a grand opening on Friday.

The fashion soiree is being held at the Hotel Fairmont in Jaipur – a property that defines luxury. From its beautiful architecture to its striking fort-like structure, the luxe spot instantly transported one to the Maharaja style of living. They say location makes all the difference, and for this event, it did just that.

After the long wait, designer Vikram Phadnis opened the first day minus any Bollywood celebrities. The highlight was instead, little fashion divas dressed in ethnic wear sashaying down the runway.

The garments seen on the 80-feet long ramp seemed like a hybrid of spring designs and autumn tones. Lehengas with short blouses and tunics, kurtas with palazzo pants, bordered saris and anarkaklis were detailed with velvet, gotta pati, brocade and motif work. Keeping it easy for men, the simple kurtas, Nehru jackets and dhoti pants fared much better in comparison.

A pre-event offsite show took place on Thursday where designers Rohit and Abhishek showcased their men’s line, with model Pia Trivedi as their showstopper.

Though the Rajasthan fashion Week is yet to match the glam quotient of cities like Delhi and Mumbai, what makes the event stand out is its superior location.
