The Rajasthan Electricity Regulatory Commission on Thursday revised the power tariff for different categories of consumers with a projected increase in the revenue by Rs 2,676 crore for 12 months.
Jaipur, Ajmer and Jodhpur discoms had filed petitions with the commission for determination of Annual Revenue Requirement (ARR) and tariff for fiscal 2013-14 with a projection of an ARR of Rs 32,596 crore and net deficit of Rs 11,454 crore after government subsidy at existing tariff.
The discoms had proposed tariff increase of Rs 2,702 crore to meet their deficit, according to a commission release.
The revision will lead to an overall increase in revenue by Rs 2,676 crore for 12-month period, it said.
For the balance period of the current year, the increase in revenue will be Rs 2,230 crore. Due to this, the assessed net deficit for fiscal 2013-14 shall be Rs 1,751 crore, it said.
Though the discoms have not proposed any changes in energy and fixed charges for BPL, small domestic and general domestic consumers having consumption up to 500 units per month, the Commission has agreed with proposal of discoms for introduction of a new slab under general domestic category for consumers having consumption above 500 units per month.
The energy charges for consumption above 500 units per month (domestic category) have been raised from existing Rs 5.15 per unit to Rs 5.45 per unit as against Rs 6.00 per unit as proposed by discoms.
The energy charges for consumption above 500 units per month in non-domestic category have also been raised from existing Rs 6.25 per unit to Rs 6.60 per unit against Rs 7.00 per unit as proposed by discoms.
There is no change for consumers consuming up to 500 units per month.
In agriculture category, the commission accepted the proposal of discoms to increase energy charges for Metered General category of consumers from Rs 2.25 per unit to Rs 3.93 per unit.
With this revision, the subsidy provided from the government under this category would go up from Rs 1.35 per unit to Rs 3.03 per unit and the effective energy charges for this category would be Rs 0.90 per unit after receipt of subsidy from the government.
The commission also agreed to place Jaipur Metro Rail under Large Industrial Category and allowed a rebate of 10 per cent in place of existing 5 per cent on energy charges for the Metro rail service in view of its utility for public, according to the release.
The rebate will be for a period of five years from the date of electrification after which normal tariff shall be charged, it said.
There is no change in power tariff in the categories of small industries, medium industries and bulk supply.
This is the second revision in a period less than one year. The tariff last time was revised in August last year.
