Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi may visit Rajasthan in April, party sources said after the leader’s meeting with PCC chief Chandrabhan and chief minister Ashok Gehlot in New Delhi on Monday.

BJP state president and former chief minister Vasundhara Raje is also to launch the ‘Suraj Sankalp Yatra’ in April to gear up the opposition party for the state assembly elections due in December this year.

At the meeting, which lasted for nearly one-and-a-half hour, the Congress vice-president sought a compliance report on the directions given by him during his last discussions with the two state leaders, along with other state PCC chiefs and CLP leaders, last month. Gandhi had then assured the state leaders that he would be in regular touch with them about the organisational works.

Sources said the party vice-president discussed the state’s political developments with the chief minister and the state president in the wake of Raje reemerging at the helm of Rajasthan BJP. Emphasis was given on achievements with regard to execution of the party’s flagship programmes targeted at its traditional voters in rural areas.

At the last meeting, Gandhi had asked the party state presidents to move out of party’s state offices for at least 10 days in a month and visit the districts of Rajasthan and some blocks to hear the party men’s grievances and strengthen the organisation. A report was sought on Monday if all the district, block and booth level appointments in the party had been done in Rajasthan, sources said.

The Gehlot government, meanwhile, is also preparing to invite Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi in the coming months to inaugurate some ambitious projects, including foundation laying for the Barmer refinery, to boost its chances of returning to power after the coming assembly elections.
