Music not only heals but educates too. And soon Australian cricket star Brett Lee will lend his support to spread education through music in the Pink City. His NGO MewsicA Brett Lee Foundation has joined hands with the Rotary Foundation to use music as a therapeutic tool to educate children in slums.

Lee, who has been long an advocate of music, and has even sung in an album with Asha Bhonsle, has come forward to offer a different perspective to spread education through music.

The project named ‘Music on Wheels’ will work like this: A van will go to different places to teach music. The mobile van, which is under construction right now, will have musical instruments, basic teaching aids, and a virtual stage.

There will also be a permanent and qualified music teacher to train children in these vans. “The primary focus of the project is to educate children through music. Since the Jaipur School of music is known world over, we decided to begin this from pink City only. This is one of its kind initiative which will inculcate education and awareness though musical traditions among children of underprivileged society,” informs Ashish Desai, district governor of Rotary 3050.

The van, being customized in Jaipur, will be handed over to Lee’s Foundation soon, who himself will hand it over to the local agency to further take care of the project.

Confirming the news Emily Harrison, who is managing Lee’s Foundation in India says, “Lee is equally passionate about India and music. He wants to support the cause, but since he is keeping too busy with the IPL, we are still working on the dates to officially launch it.” She adds, “A similar project has already been started in Delhi where a bus is already operational.”
