Mercury rises sharply in Rajasthan with Kota hottest at 40.1 degrees Celsius

The day temperature took an upward swing at majority of the places in the state on Sunday with Kota recording a maximum of 40.1 degrees Celsius.

In Jaipur, the maximum temperature was 38.1 degrees Celsius, nearly 3 degrees above the normal notch. The roads gave an empty look in the afternoon due to excessive heat conditions. However, in the evening, people came out and thronged juice corners, ice cream parlours and other joints in an effort to beat the heat.

With increasing mercury, the footfall of foreign tourists at various spots in the city also dipped. “This week showed that the tourist season is over as there are hardly any tourist groups,” said Jagat Singh, a tourist guide at Jantar Mantar.

Early this week, rain accompanied by hailstorm remained a matter of concern for the farmers as rabi crops is harvested in the summer.

Kota was followed by Churu that recorded a maximum temperature of 39.6 degrees Celsius, Chittorgarh 39.5, Bikaner and Barmer 38.8 each, Ajmer 37.6, Sriganganagar 37.4, Jodhpur and Pilani 37.2 each and Jaisalmer recorded a maximum temperature of 37.1 degrees Celsius.

The Met office also forecasted that summer would be in full swing in the coming week when the maximum temperature may go on or above 40 degrees Celsius in the western and northern parts of the state including Jaisalmer, Barmer, Churu, Sriganganagar, Jodhpur, Bikaner, Jaipur, Dausa and Sawai Madhopur.
